Books: My Thoughts on A Slay Ride Together With You (Year-Round Christmas Mystery 7)

Image
A Slay Ride Together With You by Vicki Delany My rating: 4 of 5 stars Another enjoyable installment in this series! One thing I do have to mention is that narrator changed for this one and while I still enjoyed the presentation, the feel of the characters was different for me due to this change. I'm still looking forward to the next installment as always. View all my reviews

Book1CoziesClub: Caught Dead Handed (Witch City Mysteries 1)

Image
Caught Dead Handed by Carol J. Perry My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed this one. Definitely deals with some heavier topics though. Glad I finally got around to reading this one and will be continuing on with the series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Key of Knowledge (Key Trilogy 2)

Image
Key of Knowledge by Nora Roberts My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read for Nora November Enjoyable and entertaining. I connected with the main character in this one more because of our shared interest in books. Looking forward to seeing how this all wraps up. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Gallows Hill

Image
Gallows Hill by Lois Duncan My rating: 3 of 5 stars Entertaining but I did not care for most of the parents in this story at all. How they reacted to situations was aggravating and I feel like there might've been something more going on with the main character's Mom but that wasn't really explained. Had I read this when I was the target age for this, I probably would have enjoyed it more. I do remember that I enjoyed the TV adaptation when it came out years ago. I am interested to see what I think now, years later, and after having read the source material. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel

Image
Hocus Pocus & The All New Sequel by A.W. Jantha My rating: 4 of 5 stars Enjoyable and entertaining. I enjoyed the narration as well. It may become an annual read for me this time of year. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Woman in Black

Image
The Woman in Black by Susan Hill My rating: 2 of 5 stars This one just wasn't for me. For such a short book, it was a struggle for me to finish reading it. The story just did not grab my attention. View all my reviews

Book1CoziesClub: My Thoughts on Chaos at the Lazy Bones Bookshop (Halloween Bookshop Mystery 1)

Image
Chaos at the Lazy Bones Bookshop by Emmeline Duncan My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyable and entertaining cozy mystery. Included several things that I personally enjoy such as knitting, tea, and books to name a few. Looking forward to the next one! View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Ashport Archives: Search for The Phoenix

Image
The Ashport Archives: Search for The Phoenix by Stephanie A. Gillis My rating: 4 of 5 stars Very entertaining read! The reveal wasn't surprising to me, but I don't think it should've been since there were clues dropped along the way. I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in the next installment. Books: My Thoughts on Fearless Magic (Star-Crossed 3)

Image
Fearless Magic by Rachel Higginson My rating: 3 of 5 stars Entertaining, but the same things that bothered me in the previous installments continue to bother me here. Big supporter of the way the love triangle is turning, however I feel like it will turn back the other direction before this series is done. I did listen to this one completely by audiobook and while I'm entertained and there's nothing wrong with the narration, I do think the presentation is adding to my frustration with certain characters. Books: My Thoughts on Eruption

Image
Eruption by Michael Crichton My rating: 3 of 5 stars Unfortunately, this was a disappointing read for me. I had some personal issues with things that occurred in the story and I know that won't affect most people that read this. It was an easy read and the short chapters make it so you can read as little or as much as you want to in a sitting, but there were just too many things that bothered me. View all my reviews

Light Novel: My Thoughts on 86—EIGHTY-SIX, Vol. 2

Image
86—EIGHTY-SIX, Vol. 2 by Asato Asato My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoying this series! This installment covers some of what happens in the second season of the anime. It wasn't new material to me, but I enjoyed it none the less. Looking forward to the next installment! View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Hunt for Atlantis (Nina Wilde & Eddie Chase 1)

Image
The Hunt for Atlantis by Andy McDermott My rating: 4 of 5 stars I really enjoyed this. It was exactly what I was looking for - an adventure with lots of action scenes. Looking forward to continuing with this series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Never Game (Coulter Shaw 1)

Image
The Never Game by Jeffery Deaver My rating: 3 of 5 stars I read this after watching the adaptation and while I was entertained by this story, it kind of felt like it was missing something. The pace was a lot slower than I expected as well. Listened to this one entirely and I thought the narrator was fine, but maybe that also lended to the slower pace I felt? I'm still interested in continuing with this series, but won't be jumping into the next one right away. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Pacific Vortex! (Dirk Pitt 1)

Image
Pacific Vortex! by Clive Cussler My rating: 3 of 5 stars Not sure why, but this one took me a very long time to get through considering the number of pages it has. It took me three tries to get going with it and I had a very hard time getting into the story. It is set mostly on Oahu, somewhere I'm very familiar with, so I'm not sure why the story didn't grab me for a bit. I would say about halfway through, I was more interested in the happenings. Towards the end though, it started to feel like Dirk Pitt was trying to be someone like James Bond, especially with the little love line thrown in. It even felt a little like a James Bond movie towards the end. In the end, I do think this was an interesting and entertaining read, so I will be continuing to the next one. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Red, White & Royal Blue

Image
Red, White & Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston My rating: 4 of 5 stars I thought this was cute and entertaining. Definitely a few things that were predictable, but I still enjoyed this read. I was a little worried about the political aspects of the story before I started reading, but those aspects ended up being okay for me. I listened to half and read half and both experiences were good for me. I enjoyed the narration though it was a little slow for me. Truthfully, I didn't think I was going to enjoy this as much as I did and I'm glad I gave it a chance. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Wolf at the Door (Big Bad Wolf 1)

Image
The Wolf at the Door by Charlie Adhara My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyable and entertaining. It felt like Criminal Intentions but with supernatural elements and the romance moves a bit quicker. I almost wish the story was from Park's perspective though instead of Cooper's. I don't think the narration did this book justice. The narrator was ok, but at times he was almost boring to listen to. I'm definitely going to have to read a physical copy because I believe my enjoyment would elevate quite a bit. Looking forward to continuing with this series! View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Boyfriend Subscription

Image
The Boyfriend Subscription by Steven Salvatore My rating: 4 of 5 stars An entertaining and easy read. It's been a very long time since I've watched Pretty Woman, so I only recognize the general references, but I definitely enjoyed this couple. For me, the amount of times the POV changes was a bit too much. I did listen to this on audio, so having the dual voices helped, but the POV changes several times in each chapter. I believe this is why the chapters felt a bit choppy. I really would've liked to see this story stretch out over a longer period of time. I'm not sure I'm convinced of how deep their feelings are with how short of a time the story takes place in. That being said, even with the minor unhappiness I had with something that happens towards the end, I still really enjoyed spending time with these characters. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Mistakes Were Made

Image
Mistakes Were Made by Meryl Wilsner My rating: 4 of 5 stars I was very surprised at how entertained I was with this one. There are elements of this story that sit a bit weird with me, but for the most part I found this to be an enjoyable read. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on It's Witchcraft (Criminal Intentions: Season 1, Episode 5)

Image
It's Witchcraft by Cole McCade My rating: 4 of 5 stars Interesting case. Our main characters are getting closer on a personal level, which I really enjoyed. Looking forward to the next one. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Hopeless Magic (Star-Crossed 2)

Image
Hopeless Magic by Rachel Higginson My rating: 4 of 5 stars Still entertained by this series, but this installment continued to carry some points of irritation for me. It also introduced the love triangle, which is something I don't enjoy. Very interested to see where this goes after what happened towards the end though. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Sweet Nightmare (Calder Academy 1)

Image
Sweet Nightmare by Tracy Wolff My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyed being back in this world. Some familiar characters and several new ones. The next installment can't be released soon enough. Looking forward to seeing what happens next! View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on We'll Never Tell

Image
We'll Never Tell by Wendy Heard My rating: 3 of 5 stars Entertaining but a little too much teen drama for me. The events were interesting enough to keep my interest. The pace of the story was almost too slow for me though. I think if I were the target age for this one I would've definitely enjoyed this more and it would've been something right down my alley when I actually was that age. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on A Thousand Faces: Volume 1

Image
A Thousand Faces: Volume 1 by Sosan My rating: 3 of 5 stars The summary above doesn't really explain what this book is about. In this one we follow Junwoo who has been raised by a group of swindlers. He grows an interest in acting while he's growing up and hones his skills while working jobs with his family. Eventually his life of crime catches up with him and he is given a chance to relive part of his life and he uses the opportunity to take another road - one that leads him towards his passion of acting. At first, I thought there might be a bit more fantasy woven into this story, but with this first volume, there really is only the time travel element. This a very slice of life story following a character enjoying something they weren't able to in their previous life. Eventually this opens up opportunities for him that he doesn't really go after, but they start to fall into his path. When I read stories, I need for the main character to make me want to root for the...

Books: My Thoughts on Bride

Image
Bride by Ali Hazelwood My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyed this. It had enough of a mystery element to keep my interest and though there were things that I didn't enjoy, it was still very entertaining. The end left it open for a spin-off and should the author decide to write one, I would be interested in reading that as well. View all my reviews

Finished Series: My Thoughts on A Ghoul's Guide to Love and Murder (Ghost Hunter Mysteries 10)

Image
A Ghoul's Guide to Love and Murder by Victoria Laurie My rating: 5 of 5 stars Just as good on re-read as I remember it being. This series is still one of my favorite series. I listened to the audiobook this time around and while it took me a bit to get used to the voices of our characters at the beginning of the series, I really warmed up to the narration and I ended up being very entertained. While I thought this was then end when I read this the first time, it turns out the author has another one in the works which will hopefully be out shortly. I've really missed our cast of characters and am looking forward to revisiting them in the newest installment. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Dark Prince (Dark 1)

Image
Dark Prince by Christine Feehan My rating: 3 of 5 stars While I really enjoyed the latter half of this book, the first part had a lot of content I believe could've been excluded. I have to believe that the extra 100 pages that were removed when this book was first published had to have come from the first half of the book. If that is the case, I probably would've enjoyed reading the original published edition more than this edition. I believe where I initially started to enjoy this one was when we started meeting more of our characters who remain with us through the end of the book. It looks like this series will focus on each of these characters individually, at least for the next few books. While I do feel like we got a lot of information on one other character in this story, we don't know a lot about the others so I'm looking forward to learning more about them.  Read for the Orilium Magical Readathon prompt of book by an au...

Books: My Thoughts on No Ghouls Allowed (Ghost Hunter Mysteries 9)

Image
No Ghouls Allowed by Victoria Laurie My rating: 5 of 5 stars More like a 4.5 - rating has remained the same on re-read I really enjoyed this one. Hard topics covered in this story, but I think it's MJ's relationship with her father that really got me the most. I think it's mostly because of my relationship with my own father. The investigation was interesting as they all are, but this installment really helps you get to know MJ's family and I appreciated and could relate to a lot of her struggles with her father. Books: My Thoughts Déjà Dead (Temperance Brennan 1)

Image
Déjà Dead by Kathy Reichs My rating: 3 of 5 stars Was surprised to discover that this is very different from the TV show. Almost everything you know about the TV show is different besides the character name and profession. It was an interesting case though. I'm hoping now that I've gotten over that initial shock of how different this was to the show and that I know this Temperance better, that the next installment will move much better for me. Books: My Thoughts on Changing Faces (Criminal Intentions 4)

Image
Changing Faces by Cole McCade My rating: 4 of 5 stars A bit shorter than the previous installments, but still an entertaining read. The first chapter of this book was a little hard to read in regards to the content. This case did not hold the same intrigue as previous cases for me because it wasn't hard to figure out what happened. The interactions between Seong-Jae and Malcolm though... I listened to this one entirely via audiobook. The more I listen to the narrator, the move I'm enjoying the experience. I still don't enjoy the way Malcolm is narrated, but I'm getting used to it now and I do feel like the narration provides another layer of entertainment for me with this series. Looking forward to seeing our characters investigate the next case and hopefully we'll get back to longer installments. This one felt like it went by too fast. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Ghoul Next Door (Ghost Hunter Mysteries 8)

Image
The Ghoul Next Door: A Ghost Hunter Mystery by Victoria Laurie My rating: 4 of 5 stars Ten years later, my rating has not changed. I never notated my thoughts on my first readthrough though so I'm documenting now. Enjoyed unraveling the mystery of this one, but I could pass on the relationship drama. It seems all our main characters were having relationship drama in this installment and that is not something I enjoy. I don't particularly care for what happened in regards to Steven either. He was never my favorite character to begin with though. The mystery was very interesting though and gave an edge of creepiness and suspense. Really enjoyed the investigation and am looking forward to my re-read of the next one. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Murder in the Family

Image
Murder in the Family by Cara Hunter My rating: 3 of 5 stars I'm not sure that books in formats like this are for me. I didn't enjoy the experience of reading the transcripts, articles, forum posts, etc. I also read this on my very old E-ink Kindle and the graphics for the things outside the transcript were very hard to read. The graphics weren't crisp which also didn't help the reading experience. I'm sure it would be much nicer from a physical copy. I do think that this would work better as an actual TV show for me, but the reading experience was not very captivating. Also, toward the end when things actually started to be revealed, we ended up with a lot of unnecessary drama and things were done just for the ratings of their show. I did not enjoy how that all went down. I am willing to try something else by this author, provided that is not presented in a multimedia format like this one, but this one was a bit of a miss f...

Books: My Thoughts on Find Him Where You Left Him Dead (Death Games 1)

Image
Find Him Where You Left Him Dead by Kristen Simmons My rating: 3 of 5 stars This was entertaining for me but it didn't really grab me. I read about half from the ebook and listened to the other half. Neither experience was better or worse than the other for me, but I think I expected a bit more from this. It started out pretty good for me, but I soon found myself scanning pages instead of actually reading them when I was reading from the ebook. That is never a good sign for me. The twist at the end wasn't very surprising for me. At this point, I'm not sure that I will be continuing with this series. I'm not saying that I won't, but this isn't a series where I'll be waiting for the next installment to come out because I need to know what happens next. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Check & Mate

Image
Check & Mate by Ali Hazelwood My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really entertaining and very enjoyable. Very surprising as this is not my usual type of read, but I found myself really wanting to know what was going to happen with tournaments and our characters. I read about half from the ebook, listened to the other half, and enjoyed both experiences. To be honest, I thought all the chess talk was going to bore me a bit, but I actually enjoyed the way it was presented in this story. I would definitely be open to trying another title by this author in the future. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Reckless Magic (Star-Crossed #1)

Image
Reckless Magic by Rachel Higginson My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyed this one. Very entertaining, but there were definitely things that bothered me. Reckless is a good reference for this one, as our main character and a few things that happen in this book are such. A great part of this book hinges on the fact that the main character doesn't know things. That did get a bit irritating, especially towards the end because I felt there wasn't a good reason for her not to know certain things. There was even one scene after the 75% mark where it was so ridiculous that I rolled my eyes. That being said, I did enjoy reading this one and it captured my interest. I did listen to a portion of this on audio as well and enjoyed the narration. Will definitely be reading the next installment. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on From Below

Image
From Below by Darcy Coates My rating: 3 of 5 stars Unfortunately, this was not as good as I was hoping it was going to be. Entertaining? Yes, but very slow to open. Once things got going, it was definitely suspenseful and mysterious, but this did not satisfy the horror aspect for me. It also took way too long to get there for me. I do think that if I was watching this story on screen, I may find this story to be more horror than suspenseful and mysterious, but my readthrough did not make me feel that way. Jumping between timelines is not a storytelling technique that I enjoy, and this book does utilize that. One of the characters in particular, really made some dumb decisions and continued to make the same decision multiple times during this book, which got on my nerves. I think the author lost several chances to expand the heart pounding moments with the decisions this character made as well. I'm glad I finally got around to reading this ...

Light Novels: My Thoughts on Bungo Stray Dogs, Vol. 2 (Light Novel): Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era

Image
Bungo Stray Dogs, Vol. 2 (light novel): Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era (Bungo Stray Dogs by Kafka Asagiri My rating: 3 of 5 stars While I enjoy this series, this book moved very slowly for me. I'm glad I read it, but it took way to long to finish and I'm not quite sure why. I enjoyed the story, there was enough intrigue to keep my interest, but I was able to put this one down for long periods of time before picking it up again. I'll definitely be continuing with this series. I'm glad I know why Dazai left the Port Mafia and joined the Armed Detective Agency, but this installment felt just ok for me. View all my reviews

Light Novels: My Thoughts on 86—EIGHTY-SIX, Vol. 1

Image
86—EIGHTY-SIX, Vol. 1 by Asato Asato My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyed this one. I enjoyed seeing the squad and their handler get to know each other and grow in their partnership. The action scenes were interesting and I'm looking forward to continuing with this series, especially after what we find out with the epilogue. I listened to most of this on audio and I really enjoyed the narration. Will definitely be continuing with the audiobooks as well as the physical editions. View all my reviews
