Books: My Thoughts on The Escape Game (The Escape Game 1)

Image
The Escape Game by Marissa Meyer My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyed this one! The game show aspect, the figuring out of the puzzles, and the mystery all really worked for me. Unfortunately, I didn't realize this was going to be the first in a series when I picked it up, which means I have to wait a while to continue with this story. That being said, I am really looking forward to seeing where the story goes from here. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on A Thousand Faces: Volume 1

Image
A Thousand Faces: Volume 1 by Sosan My rating: 3 of 5 stars The summary above doesn't really explain what this book is about. In this one we follow Junwoo who has been raised by a group of swindlers. He grows an interest in acting while he's growing up and hones his skills while working jobs with his family. Eventually his life of crime catches up with him and he is given a chance to relive part of his life and he uses the opportunity to take another road - one that leads him towards his passion of acting. At first, I thought there might be a bit more fantasy woven into this story, but with this first volume, there really is only the time travel element. This a very slice of life story following a character enjoying something they weren't able to in their previous life. Eventually this opens up opportunities for him that he doesn't really go after, but they start to fall into his path. When I read stories, I need for the main character to make me want to root for the...

Books: My Thoughts on Rescuing Titanic: A true story of quiet bravery in the North Atlantic

Image
Rescuing Titanic: A true story of quiet bravery in the North Atlantic by Flora Delargy My rating: 4 of 5 stars I really enjoyed this. I don't read a lot of children's books but the topic of this one really caught my attention. I have watched a lot of documentaries on Titanic, but I've never watched anything from the perspective of the Carpathia, who came to rescue the survivors of the sinking. This book provides that perspective. The story is told in a way that is easy enough for children to understand, but still interesting enough for an adult to read. I loved the illustrations and the art style and am really looking forward to more of what the Hidden Histories series has to offer in the future. I did receive an Advanced Reader Copy from the publisher through Edelweiss in exchange for my honest review. This in no way affects my thoughts on this book, just so you know. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Luck of the Titanic

Image
Luck of the Titanic by Stacey Lee My rating: 4 of 5 stars I don't read many historicals, but if you set a book on the Titanic, I am immediately intrigued. When I found out about this book and that it was from an Asian point of view, that made it a must read for me. This was my first read of a book from this author and I thought the writing style was very easy to read and get into. While I did enjoy this one as a whole, there were definite things I didn't enjoy including how the main character reacted to certain things within this book. I did however, enjoy several of the other characters we meet. As we get closer to the time the ship hits the iceberg, I became very invested in the characters and I couldn't put the book down. I wondered if any of them would perish or if they would survive. I wondered where and how this story would end. When I got there, I was definitely surprising and unexpected and even after turning the last page...

Books: My Thoughts on The Beast's Heart

Image
The Beast's Heart by Leife Shallcross My rating: 4 of 5 stars I really enjoyed this story. It was moving, magical, and it really captured my attention. I found myself constantly trying to get one more page or one more chapter in. We get a lot of glimpses into what Isabeau's family is up to while she is with the Beast, and I really enjoyed that. The magical aspects to this story were interesting as well. I'll definitely be reading more of this author's work in the future. Thank you to the Penguin Random House First to Read Program for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. View all my reviews
