Books: City of Fallen Angels (The Mortal Instruments #4)

Image
City of Fallen Angels by Cassandra Clare My rating: 4 of 5 stars Stepping back in this world was so refreshing. With as much trouble as I had reading The Infernal Devices, I am glad I did read that trilogy before reading this one because there were little references here that I wouldn't have gotten had I not read the prequel series. Would I have just glanced over those had I not read The Infernal Devices first? Probably, but knowing the references made things a bit more interesting. This read felt a lot faster and I was always interested to find out what would happen next. So glad to be buddy reading this with a friend too, because we've had a lot to talk about! Looking forward to getting into the next one. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on What Light

Image
What Light by Jay Asher My rating: 4 of 5 stars I'm very surprised that I enjoyed this book as much as I did. I don't usually read YA Contemporary Romance, but I was looking for a light holiday read and this fit the bill nicely. The story kept my interest and I found myself thinking about it and wanting to get back to reading it, even when I had to put it down for a couple days so I could focus on a couple buddy reads I was participating in. I just wish that I had picked it up before the holiday season passed. View all my reviews

Finished Series: My Thoughts on Bits & Pieces (Rot and Ruin #5)

Image
Bits & Pieces by Jonathan Maberry My rating: 3 of 5 stars I so wish I read these short stories along side the novels. It has been a while since I read the series and getting back into this world was interesting. Most of the stories in this collection didn't add anything to the world or story for me after finishing the series. While we do get to see some of the characters we're familiar with, we see a lot that are new - at least I don't remember them. I do wish there were more stories about the time when First Night happened and how the towns were created. While there is a story on how Tom survived First Night, I think I would really appreciate a full length prequel novel about him as well. I unfortunately don't believe short stories are for me. That is the reason I haven't read very many in the past and this experience does make that belief seem valid. Though I didn't enjoy this collection as much as the series, I am excit

Knitting: Bakery Bears Sock Box Project | Blizzard Socks (Pair 1)

Image
Heel flap on my first Blizzard sock is done! Not gonna lie - I totally thought my contrast yarn was a dark navy blue LOL It wasn't until I took this pic that I see that it's a gorgeous green! That's what I get for only working on the sock at night in bad lighting. It's ok though. Being that there are Christmas trees on the leg of this sock, it is still on theme ^-^ This will be my first in my Bakery Bears Sock Box Project for 2019. I didn't want to commit to a Make 9 project, but I have almost all of Kay Jones' sock patterns and thought it would be a nice and doable project for the year. I don't believe Kay has 12 sock patterns out right now, but I'm hoping she'll release a couple more during the year. If not, I'll just double up on the patterns she has released so I'll have 12 pairs by the end of the year.

Books: My Thoughts on Phantom Evil (Krewe of Hunters #1)

Image
Phantom Evil by Heather Graham My rating: 3 of 5 stars Interesting start to the series and it definitely has a couple things I enjoy in books - ghosts and mystery. I enjoyed how the mystery from the past was tied into the story as well. I'm not yet completely hooked, but will definitely be continuing further into this series. I'm not sure if it was because I listened to most of this or if it just didn't completely grab my attention, but I had a hard time keeping track of each characters names. Besides the ones we see often, I couldn't remember who was who. Even with the different voices that were performed by the narrator, it was hard for me to keep track of them all. I know as I read through this series further, I won't have that problem, but it was a bit confusing for me. Looking forward to the next one. View all my reviews

Books: My 2018 in Books

Image
My 2018 in books! Click the link here to see more. I'm not surprised that the least popular book I read (meaning has the least amount of people who read it, not the lowest rated) is a manga. It usually is! This is not quite right though, because my last review of the year was for We Wish You a Murderous Christmas and not A Christmas Journey. If it were correct though, you wouid see that the first book I read and the last book I read in 2018 were from the same series. Pretty cool. Another interesting thing is that I don't think I gave out very many 5 star ratings in 2018. I don't see any highlighted on this page at least. I'll have to go through my list to see for sure, but I don't know if that means if I'm being more critical about giving out 5 star ratings, or if I just really didn't have any books that I loved last year. I know I really liked a lot of the books I read though, which is great! ETA: Of the 100 books, 51 were volumes o
