Books: My Thoughts on Hark the Herald Angels Slay (Year-Round Christmas #3)

Image
Hark the Herald Angels Slay by Vicki Delany My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read for #MarchMysteryMadness I was supposed to have read this in December as a #Book1CoziesClub bonus read but ended up having a not so great reading month. Unbeknownst to me, this is set during a Christmas in July event, so I guess it worked out! I'm so glad that I was able to end out this year's March Mystery Madness on a good note. I really enjoy this series and this installment was no exception. I wasn't able to figure out the killer, though I did figure out the motive. Just ended up thinking the wrong person was the killer! This read moved much quicker to me than most of my other reads recently, and I didn't even listen to this on audio. Really looking forward to continuing to the fourth one in December. Books: My Thoughts on Obsidian Curse (Stacy Justice #5)

Image
Obsidian Curse by Barbra Annino My rating: 3 of 5 stars Read for #MarchMysteryMadness After a really enjoyable installment in this series, I was disappointed with this one. In general, I felt disconnected from the story. I suppose it is telling that I was able to put this down for a week and a half with only a few pages left to the end how much of a disconnect I felt. It is unfortunate because I really had high hopes for this one with the upward trend in my enjoyment of each installment prior to this one. I'm hoping that the last installment turns this around for me. View all my reviews

#Book1CoziesClub: My Thoughts on Fundraising the Dead (Museum #1)

Image
Fundraising the Dead by Sheila Connolly My rating: 3 of 5 stars More like a 2.5 - Read for #MarchMysteryMadness and #Book1CoziesClub I really struggled to get into this book. In the end, I wouldn't say I got into it at all. It has put me in a bit of a reading slump if I'm honest. Some of the things that happened during Nell's investigation seemed to only have been included to offer some racy material. Going ahead with investigative ideas that were illegal (which if any evidence was found wouldn't hold up in court), wasn't the best story telling road for me. Also, the investigation didn't hold any amount of suspense for me considering this is a mystery. Since I own the next book in this series I will read it, but if this wasn't the case I'm not sure that I would continue. This author has other series that I have been interested so I will check out other work by her, but I was a bit disappointed in this one. View all my reviews ...

Finished Series: Dangerous Minds (Knight and Moon #2)

Image
Dangerous Minds by Janet Evanovich My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read for #MarchMysteryMadness Just what I needed after the last couple books I read left me underwhelmed. Super entertaining and hilarious. Over the top at times, but just what I needed to rejuvenate my reading as I was feeling a slump come on. I wish there were more books in this series! View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Lying Game

Image
The Lying Game by Ruth Ware My rating: 2 of 5 stars Read this as part of a group read with Elizabeth (Lizziefaye Loves Books) for #MarchMysteryMadness I've read one of Ruth Ware's books prior to reading this one. That was The Death of Mrs. Westaway , which got just a little higher rating from me than this one. Even reflecting on that book now, I still feel that book was a more enjoyable read for me than this one. This story just didn't keep my interest. For something that is tagged as Thriller or Suspense, this did not keep me at the edge of my seat or make me want to know what happened. I pretty much figured out the main points of the mystery aspect early, so my journey with this book was just waiting for everything to be revealed. I think this story would've worked better for me if I connected or even felt a little for Isa, who is the person we see the story unfold from. I do think Isa was the right choice to be our narrator, but seeing things ...

#Book1CoziesClub: My Thoughts on Statue of Limitations (Goddess of Greene Street #1)

Image
Statue of Limitations by Kate Collins My rating: 3 of 5 stars More like a 2.5 - Read for #Book1CoziesClub and #MarchMysteryMadness I have not read the author's Flower Shop Mysteries so this was my first experience with her writing. While this was an entertaining story, there were many things that bothered me including several of the things our amateur sleuth did in the course of her investigation. The mystery itself was very predictable and I knew who the culprit was pretty early. I listened to this entirely on audiobook and it was very easy to listen to. At this point, I'm not sure if I will read the next one when it is released, though I may still try the Flower Shop Mystery series. I'm glad that this was a selection for my book club as I think there will be some interesting things to discuss. View all my reviews
