Books: My Thoughts on Lovelight Farms (Lovelight 1)

Image
Lovelight Farms by B.K. Borison My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyable and the perfect read for me for the time of the year. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on A Wonderful Christmas Crime (Christmas Tree Farm Mystery 6)

Image
A Wonderful Christmas Crime by Jacqueline Frost My rating: 3 of 5 stars Another cast of characters I enjoy reuniting with during the holiday season! Even though some of Holly's decisions had me shaking my head, I still enjoyed this installment and I always look forward to spending time with these characters. View all my reviews

Books: O, Deadly Night (Year-Round Christmas Mysteries 8)

O, Deadly Night by Vicki Delany My rating: 4 of 5 stars I always enjoy reuniting with our characters during the holidays. View all my reviews

Light Novel: My Thoughts on KinnPorsche, Vol. 1

Image
KinnPorsche, Vol. 1 by Daemi My rating: 3 of 5 stars I thought this was entertaining, but I don't know if I will continue with the series. While I thought the narrator did a good job, I didn't really enjoy the main characters together and I'm not really interested in seeing them work through things, including what happened/is happening at the end of this volume. I'm glad I was able to listen to this one as part of a subscription I have, but I don't think I will read any more unless the rest of the series is available through a subscription I already have or available from my library. Light Novels: Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho (Light Novel), Vol. 1

Image
Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho (Light Novel), Vol. 1 by Motoo Nakanishi My rating: 4 of 5 stars I don't usually enjoy historical settings anymore, but I enjoyed this one. I thought the narrator's presentation of the story was entertaining as well. I definitely picked up pretty early in the story the trajectory it would go so nothing really surprised me about it, though there was one element to the destination that I would've preferred was different. I will be continuing with this series and look forward to following Jinta on his journey. View all my reviews

Light Novels: My Thoughts on I Want to Eat Your Pancreas

Image
I Want to Eat Your Pancreas by Yoru Sumino My rating: 4 of 5 stars This one definitely made me shed a tear or two, which is not something that happens often for me with books. I ended up enjoying this story more than I thought I would. Though it is sad, there is lightness to it and I enjoyed spending time with the characters. I have a few by this author on my shelves, and I'm looking forward to experiencing those stories as well. View all my reviews

Light Novels: My Thoughts on SCP Foundation: Iris Through the Looking-Glass (SCP Foundation 1)

Image
SCP Foundation: Iris Through the Looking-Glass by Akira My rating: 4 of 5 stars I thought this was very entertaining. I listened to the audiobook and while I enjoyed the experience and thought the narrator did a good job, I wish I had a physical copy to combo read with it. Some details are redacted within the story and the way it's handled in the audio irritated me just a little over time. They do advise you at the beginning of the audiobook that this would happen so it wasn't unexpected, but I suppose it bothered me more to hear that sound than it would've to see how it would've been handled in the physical book. I enjoyed the experiences with the different objects and one of the earlier investigations just happened to connect to a subject I was reading about in another book at the same time. Interesting how those things go, but overall I thought this was an enjoyable read and I'm looking forward to reading the next installment. ...

Books: My Thoughts on Wonderland

Image
Wonderland by Jennifer Hillier My rating: 4 of 5 stars This was an entertaining read. I don't normally like it when a story is told from so many POVs but this one worked for me. Every layer that was uncovered made the story more interesting and there was definitely a nice build up of momentum towards the end. Looks like there will be another book in this series soon, so I'm looking forward to reading that. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Murder Road

Image
Murder Road by Simone St. James My rating: 4 of 5 stars I was definitely intrigued after the first chapter however, I don't think this one really pulled me in until about the last third of the book. I found the story enjoyable and though I didn't expect there to be a certain element to the story, I thought that element elevated the outcome of the story for me. I am looking forward to reading more of this author's work in the future. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Bone Jar (Detective Lew Kirby 1)

Image
The Bone Jar by S.W. Kane My rating: 3 of 5 stars Unfortunately, this was just an ok read for me. Nothing really grabbed me in regards to this case, I'm not invested in our detective, and I felt like there were too many things going on. There are a lot of characters involved in this story, not to mention the several things that are unraveled as you go through the investigation and are introduced to things outside of the investigation. While it was entertaining enough for me to read to completion, I do not believe I will be continuing with this series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Escape from Asylum (Asylum 0)

Image
Escape from Asylum by Madeleine Roux My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 It's been a while since I read the Asylum Trilogy, but I did enjoy this reading it as a stand alone installment. I listened to most of it by audiobook however I finished the last portion physically and I have to say that the pictures included in the book definitely enhance the reading experience. They gave me a little bit of an edge to the story that I had been lacking just listening to the narration. I do intend on reading the novellas in the future and will definitely keep this in mind when I pick that up. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on First-Time Caller (Heartstrings 1)

Image
First-Time Caller by B.K. Borison My rating: 4 of 5 stars I really enjoyed this and was very entertained. I did think it was rather long, but it kept my interest throughout. It was cute, I loved the family dynamics, and I'm looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Shutter Island

Image
Shutter Island by Dennis Lehane My rating: 3 of 5 stars More like a 2.5 I suppose this just wasn't what I thought it was going to be going into it. I've been curious about the movie adaptation for a while, so I'm glad I did finally read this book. It just ended up being not something I really enjoyed. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Asylum Hotel

Image
Asylum Hotel by Juliet Blackwell My rating: 4 of 5 stars So glad to read another story by this author. I really enjoy her Witchcraft Mystery series and I enjoyed this story as well. The story has more of a mysterious feeling than creepy feeling. I enjoyed the journey our main character had searching and piecing together information. Looking forward to seeing what this author releases next. View all my reviews

Book1CoziesClub: My Thoughts on Glazed Murder (Donut Shop Mysteries 1)

Image
Glazed Murder by Jessica Beck My rating: 4 of 5 stars Entertaining and enjoyable. Really enjoyed seeing the recipes after every chapter. Will definitely need to try some of those out myself. Looking forward to the next installment. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Until the World Falls Down

Image
Until the World Falls Down by Jordan Lynde My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyed this one but it was a little too spicy for my tastes. I also didn't really enjoy all the constant references to her ex throughout, but overall the story was very entertaining and enjoyable. I definitely could reference several things to the Labyrinth movie as I was reading, and it's probably the story that I could relate the most things to the movie that I've read so far. It looks like there will be a sequel, so I'm definitely going to be continuing on this journey with these characters and see where this story goes. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Winter's Passage (Iron Fey 1.5)

Image
Winter's Passage by Julie Kagawa My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed this continuation of the events after Iron King. I wonder if this installment was really necessary to the story, but it was nice to spend just a little more time with our characters on their journey. I'm definitely interested to see what happens in the next installment. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Iron King (The Iron Fey 1)

Image
The Iron King by Julie Kagawa My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 Enjoyed revisiting this one. It's a shame I wasn't jotting down my thoughts on my reads back then because I would've liked to see what I thought then as opposed to now, even though my rating hasn't changed much. I didn't remember too much from my first read of the story because it has been several years. I decided to experience the story via audiobook this time and I enjoyed the narration. I'm not sure if I will continue to incorporate the audiobooks for the sequels, but I am looking forward to continuing with this series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Wintersong (Wintersong 1)

Image
Wintersong by S. Jae-Jones My rating: 3 of 5 stars Unfortunately, this book was just ok for me. I'm a big fan of the Labyrinth movie and while I could see the references, the main character was not someone I enjoyed reading. It was definitely an easy read, but it was never a story where I wanted to know what happened next at any point. I do have the next installment and will read it, but I'm not going to jump into it right away.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on One False Note (39 Clues 2)

Image
One False Note by Gordon Korman My rating: 3 of 5 stars I was definitely more interested in this installment because of the music aspect. It is an entertaining story, but I found myself not being completely immersed while reading. It could be because of things going on in my life, but I am still enjoying the story and I'm looking forward to the next one. View all my reviews

Books: The Maze of Bones (39 Clues 1)

Image
The Maze of Bones by Rick Riordan My rating: 3 of 5 stars Enjoyable and entertaining. I'm curious to see how this quest continues, especially being that this series is written by several authors. Looking forward to the next installment.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Julius House (Aurora Teagarden 4)

Image
The Julius House by Charlaine Harris My rating: 3 of 5 stars This installment was just ok for me. In looking back, it's been almost 10 years since I read an installment in this series and I gave all previous installments 3 stars. I'm pretty sure I've seen the Hallmark adaptation of this one and enjoyed it but I just wasn't invested in this book. Truthfully, Roe got on my nerves a bit. Maybe it was the way she was narrated? All in all it was enjoyable enough for me to listen to the end. I'm not sure how I feel about the series on a whole, but I think I'll give it one more installment before I decide. Light Novels: My Thoughts on 86—EIGHTY-SIX, Vol. 3 (light novel): Run Through the Battlefront

Image
86—EIGHTY-SIX, Vol. 3 (light novel): Run Through the Battlefront by Asato Asato My rating: 4 of 5 stars I was already familiar with the story presented in this installment because I have watched and enjoyed the anime. That being said, I still enjoyed my time re-experiencing the story with these characters and I found the narration to be enjoyable. The next installment should be new material for me, so I'm really excited to finally get to some new story with these characters.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Haunted (Harrison Investigation 1)

Image
Haunted by Heather Graham My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 I really enjoyed the investigative aspects of this one but I didn't enjoy the romantic aspects at all. I will be continuing with the series as I enjoyed most everything else about the story. I'm hoping that the romantic aspects won't be an issue for me in future installments of the series.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood 1)

Image
Dark Lover by J.R. Ward My rating: 3 of 5 stars This is the perfect example for me of why I should always read the books I'm interested in right away instead of leaving them on my TBR for years. This one sat on my To Read list for more than 10 years and I definitely think that had I read it even five years ago I would've enjoyed it a lot more than I did. I also opted to listen to the audiobook version instead of reading physically, and the narration didn't add to my experience. The story was fine. I enjoyed our characters but nothing really grabbed me. At this point, I don't think I will continue with the series. I'll have to wait and see if what I've absorbed so far leaves a lasting impression. If it does, I'm open to continuing to the next installment.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Megalodon: Bloodbath (Deep Sea Predators 1)

Image
Megalodon: Bloodbath by Michael R. Cole My rating: 4 of 5 stars Enjoyable and entertaining. Lots of shark interactions. Just what I was looking for in a Shark Week read. Will definitely be reading more from this author. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Mega (Mega 1)

Image
Mega by Jake Bible My rating: 3 of 5 stars Entertaining, but there was too much focus on the different groups of humans and not enough shark for what I was looking for. Hopefully because this is the first book in the series, we'll have more opportunity to see the shark in the next one as all the introductions should be out of the way.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Christmas Presents

Image
Christmas Presents by Lisa Unger My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyed this one. Much better for me than the previous book I read by this author, though it took me a bit longer to finish than I thought it would. Story does take place leading up to Christmas and I thought it was a great one to read as a Christmas in July selection. I did sample a bit from the audio narration as well and I do think that if I stuck with that version, I probably wouldn't have enjoyed the story as much. There was just something about the narration that didn't grab me. Even at 2 times speed, it just made the story feel slow to me which was not how it felt reading physically. Will definitely be checking out more of this author's work in the future.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Not Another Christmas Rom Com

Image
Not Another Christmas Rom Com by A.J. Pine My rating: 4 of 5 stars Entertaining and enjoyable. I will say there was something that was so glaringly obvious pretty early in the story, and it made some of the drama that happened irritating for me. That being said, I did enjoy this one even with the moments of irritation. I enjoyed the other holiday story the author has written as well and would definitely listen to another if they release one.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Red Scrolls of Magic (The Eldest Curses 1)

Image
The Red Scrolls of Magic by Cassandra Clare My rating: 4 of 5 stars Really enjoyed being back in this world. Narration by BD Wong was great! Looking forward to the next installment. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Single Player

Image
Single Player by Tara Tai My rating: 4 of 5 stars  Though this did start very slow for me, in the end I really enjoyed this one. I listened to the audiobook version and thought the narrator did a great job as well. Will definitely check out more of this author's work in the future. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Wolf at Bay (Big Bad Wolf 2)

Image
The Wolf at Bay by Charlie Adhara My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 This installment focuses a lot on our main character's family backgrounds and the case was not as interesting as the first one. Definitely less enjoyable overall from the first for me, but I will still continue with this series.  View all my reviews

Light Novels: My Thoughts on Riverbay Road Men’s Dormitory (Novel) Vol. 1

Image
Riverbay Road Men’s Dormitory (Novel) Vol. 1 by Fei Tian Ye Xiang My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 Enjoyable read and definitely different from what I usually go for. I was satisfied just checking in for a couple chapters here and there. Because of this, this was a much slower read for me than I anticipated. That being said, I am enjoying getting to know all of the roommates and will be checking out the next installment.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Cult of Personality (Criminal Intentions 7)

Image
Cult of Personality by Cole McCade My rating: 4 of 5 stars As usual, an enjoyable installment. Case wasn't my favorite due to the aspects of it, but still an interesting investigation. Also glad to have some serious relationship progression in the series! Looking forward to the next one. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Replacement

Image
The Replacement by Lindsey Duga My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 Enjoyable and slightly creepy. I did not enjoy the communication issues between the parents and the child, though I understood why the story played out that way. Looking forward to exploring more of this author's work. Books: My Thoughts on The Reckoning (Zodiac Academy 3)

Image
The Reckoning by Caroline Peckham My rating: 4 of 5 stars As I get further in this series, I am enjoying it more and more however there are still quite a few things that I don't like. The two narrator audiobook was a much better reading experience for me than the Dramatized Adaptation, so if I do decide to continue listening to the series, I will be sticking to the two narrator version. Looking forward to continuing this journey.  View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Gated Prey (Eve Ronin 3)

Image
Gated Prey by Lee Goldberg My rating: 4 of 5 stars Enjoyable installment, though I did figure out the culprits very early in the story. Still finding the cases interesting and looking forward to continuing with the series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Bone Canyon (Eve Ronin 2)

Image
Bone Canyon by Lee Goldberg My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed watching the case unfold in this one. Culprit wasn't on my radar at all, which is always appreciated. Looking forward to continuing with the series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Ruthless Fae (Zodiac Academy 2)

Image
Ruthless Fae by Caroline Peckham My rating: 4 of 5 stars I enjoyed this installment much more than the first and I'm looking forward to continuing with the series. I experienced this one by the Dramatized Adaptation version of the audiobook as that was what was available from my library. I don't think those editions are for me, at least not for a first experience with a story. It would probably be a better experience to listen to those on re-read. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Disney in Shadow (Kingdom Keepers 3)

Image
Disney in Shadow by Ridley Pearson My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 Still interested in this series and the setting is fun, but there was something about this installment that wasn't as enjoyable for me as the previous installments. Will still be continuing with this series though and looking forward to seeing what happens next and which parks will be featured. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Chestnut Man

Image
The Chestnut Man by Søren Sveistrup My rating: 3 of 5 stars Interesting but I do feel like there were parts that didn't need to be included. The story also dragged in some areas for me. All in all, it the investigation did keep my interest and I'll probably be checking out the adaptation. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on The Surgeon (Rizzoli & Isles 1)

Image
The Surgeon by Tess Gerritsen My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read for #MarchMysteryMadness2025 Really enjoyed this one. Felt very similar to the TV show, which I appreciated. Will definitely be continuing with the series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Along Came a Spider (Alex Cross 1)

Image
Along Came a Spider by James Patterson My rating: 4 of 5 stars Read for #MarchMysteryMadness2025 Really enjoyed this and the narration was great. Too bad he didn't narrate more of the installments. Will definitely be continuing with the series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Lost Hills (Eve Ronin 1)

Books: My Thoughts on Death by Dumpling

Image
Death by Dumpling by Vivien Chien My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 Read for #MarchMysteryMadness2025 I enjoyed this installment. Don't know why it took me so long to start this series! I listened to the audiobook and the characters sound like people I know in real life. Will definitely continue to experience this series through the audiobooks. Looking forward to the next one! Light Novels: My Thoughts on The Case Files of Jeweler Richard (Light Novel) Vol. 1

Image
The Case Files of Jeweler Richard (Light Novel) Vol. 1 by Nanako Tsujimura My rating: 3 of 5 stars These were entertaining stories, very light on the mystery elements. I think if you knew nothing about gemology, this would be a lot more of an interesting read than it was to me. I did enjoy the read and am looking forward to more with these two characters, but I think I might've set my expectations too high with this series. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on A Court of Mist and Fury (A Court of Thorns and Roses 2)

Image
A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas My rating: 4 of 5 stars More like a 3.5 For me, this installment really dragged. It took a very long time for me to get into the story and with it also being a very long book, the whole experience was just very slow. The second half of the book is definitely where things start to pick up and truthfully I'm a little surprised at how I'm feeling about this story. I thought for sure this would've been a solid 4 for me, but it's just not there. I will continue with the series as I have interest in seeing what happens next, but this installment was just a little better than ok for me. View all my reviews

Books: My Thoughts on Beautiful Creatures (The Caster Chronicles 1)

Image
Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia My rating: 3 of 5 stars Restarting this series so that I can hopefully finish it. I decided to try it via audiobook this time and I didn't really enjoy the narration. The extra atmospheric sounds didn't add to the story at all for me and it really took away from the presentation. It was still an enjoyable story and surprisingly I did remember quite a bit from my previous readthrough. I had to take off a star though because the presentation of the audiobook was not as enjoyable for me. I don't think I'll be listening to the audiobook for the rest of the series, but I'm glad that I was able to experience the story in a different way. View all my reviews
