Books: ...Well, not as much in 2014

For the last couple years I've attempted the 52 books in 52 weeks Challenge, though I usually lower my goal number a bit. I know that 52 is way too high of a number for me. I believe 2011 was my first year participating in the challenge and I was able to read 39 books that year. In 2012 I decided to try to read one more book than I did in 2011, so I made my goal 40 books.  I completed the challenge and read 41 books that year. In 2013 I did even better.  With a goal of 42 books, I read 59!  Now I wanted to be realistic in 2014 so I set my goal for 43 books (one more than the goal the year prior).

As you can see, I will not hit goal this year. Truthfully only 11 of those were actual books. I read a lot of Manga this year. A lot of that has to do with the fact that I was borrowing a lot of them from the library for my daughter to read, and then I'd read them before I returned them.

Another reason I can attribute to not hitting goal is that I was spending way way more time at my office. You can guess that one of my New Year's Resolutions is to not put in so many extra hours at the office.

I will be attempting the challenge again in 2015 with 43 books. If you are on Goodreads, please friend me!  I'm always looking for more book suggestions and would love to read your reviews.  My profile is here.

If you're a regular reader of my blog or just passing by, I would like to thank you and hope you have an awesome New Year! Stay tuned here for more in 2015 as I continue my adventure in blogging.

Smile Always and until next time...

The Spirit of the Season

I was on Instagram yesterday and noticed the #getyouryarnwishesgranted hashtag going around. It was amazing how many wishes were granted and I believe it had all started just that morning or maybe the night before. Most of the wishes I saw were for yarns from indie companies, hand dyed/hand spun, sock yarn or a combination of these.

I wanted to find at least one wish to grant but they were being scooped up so quickly that the only wishes left were for yarns that were completely sold out. I posted my wish for some worsted or chunky weight hand spun yarn, as I have never crafted with it, and had my wish granted shortly after. Not only that, I have a second person sending me some yarn also! I had to find someone to be able to gift something to, so all day I stalked the hashtag and finally found someone who wished for some Knit Picks yarn.

I also came across a kind of fundraiser for a pattern designer on Ravelry named Deborah aka Obliviousknits. Her wish was to sell enough patterns to help pay her mother's property taxes in February so I purchased her These are the Breaks pattern (pic below).

If you're on Instagram and crochet, knit, or would just like to help someone in need, please get in on the fun too! If you would like to help out Deborah, you can find her patterns at 50% off on Ravelry at If you are so inclined, you can send a monitary donation instead to her Paypal account

Just a reminder that you can also follow me on Instagram with the username disis19. I post makeup looks and my knitting or crochet projects there mostly. I hope all of you are having a great holiday season. Take Care and until next time =)

Knitting: Rangers of Ithilien Gauntlets

Finished these last night for friend. Though the pattern is written for a man, I did make a few edits so that they wouldn't be so loose on a woman's arm. I used Paton's Wool in New Denim. The picture does not do the color of the gauntlets justice in my opinion but I'm very happy with the way these came out. So much so that I may need to make a pair for myself =)

If any of you are knitters and are interested in making a pair for yourself, the pattern is available free on Ravelry here. You can also view the edits I did make to the pattern on my project page linked here

Lipstick - 30 Day Lipstick Challenge: Days 21-30

Last leg of this challenge! Sorry it took so long for me to post this =(. I did actually finish this at the beginning of November, but didn't get around to editing the photos until now. Enough with the we go:

Day 21- SeneGence Lipsense Army Pink and Honey Rose topped with Bougainvillea Gloss

2 layers of each color.  The Army Pink on it's own is pretty but I feel like it's too bright/light for my complexion which is why I added the Honey Rose.  Not only is LipSense great because it stays on for up to 18 hours and is transfer-proof, but you can create your own colors by layering colors together.

Day 22 - Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Black Metal Dahlia

I love love love this tube of lipcolor.  When I bought it, I was intending on buying the non-metallic version, Black Dahlia, but they only had this one.  I'm so glad I picked up this one instead.  The sparkle just gives it a little extra oomph if you know what I mean.  That being said, I probably will still add Black Dahlia to my collection in the future.

Day 23 - Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick in #84 Amethyst Shimmer

This was my very first Rimmel Lipstick which caused the multiple additions since lol.  Very comfortable wear and just the right purple tinged pink for me.

Day 24 - Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in #90 Sweet Tart

This actually turned out more pink in the picture than the corally shade it is in real life.  Left my lips feeling moisturized all day.

Day 25 - SeneGence LipSense in Blu Red topped with Matte Gloss

This is actually one of the shades Christina Aguilera wears.  I prefer the Crimson Red shade to this one color wise, but this one was perfect for the day I wore it.

Day 26 - SeneGence LipSense in Blackberry and Red Cherry topped with Glossy Gloss

As you saw in my Halloween Makeup Look.  Really love this combination.

Day 27 - SeneGence LipSense in Strawberry Shortcake topped with Rose Gloss

This was my very first LipSense Collection.  Nothing else to add that hasn't already been said about these lipsticks.  I really love them, which is why I decided to become an Independent Distributor.

Day 28 - Avon Ultra Rich in Crushed Velvet

This one, I think, is on it's last legs, lol.  Just another great reason why I did this challenge - to help go through lipsticks that I really should get rid of.  As if I don't have enough red lipsticks, right?

Day 29 - MAC Ruby Woo

I wanted this lipstick for a long time, but I have to say that I don't really enjoy the formula. This is only the second MAC lipstick I've owned. The other was a Viva Glam from when I was a teen. This one is really dry and took a lot of work just to get it on today. Normally it isn't as hard, but this morning was cold and it tugged on my lips a lot.  I love the color though.

Day 30 - Avon Extra Lasting Lipstick in Eternal Flame topped with Avon Extra Lasting Lipgloss in Infinite Berry

Just one more great red color in my collection. Comfortable and long wearing. Love it.

That does it! Thanks for following my challenge. As for what's next, I'm working on a crochet project and a knit project that I hope to share with you soon. I also opened an Instagram account where I've been posting other beauty looks and one of my other knit works in progress. Please feel free to follow me there too. Username is @disis19. Until next time =)

Knitting: Putting Together My First Knit Pattern

Four years ago, I knit a hat based off one I saw on the Korean Drama "You're Beautiful".  It was the first time I ever tried to knit something without instructions. The first hat I made had the right stitch and construction, but it just wasn't floppy enough.  I got it on my second try. Feeling pretty accomplished, I offered what I called my pattern notes to anyone who wanted it. I got three requests, but none of those people have knit the hat yet...that I've seen anyway.

I decided recently that I would like to release these pattern notes as an actual pattern so I've been trying to convert the wording to read more like a pattern.  I've been asking other knitters I know who create patterns, for advice on how they go about releasing a pattern, and it's been really helpful. If you would like to see a picture of the hat, it is below:

Any fellow Korean Drama Addicts or Knitters/Crocheters out there? If so, what are you currently watching or creating?

Lipstick - 30 Day Lipstick Challenge: Days 11-20

Continuing the challenge! Again, 12-15 hours of wear time on each day.

Day 11 - Estée Lauder Automatic Lip Pencil for Lips in Dark Plum topped with Benefit Ms Behavin Lipstick

Beautiful color, but the lipstick is very slippery and tends to slide a lot.  The liner helps opacity and keeps the color from bleeding.  After 6 hours of wear, my lips started to chap pretty badly, but not to the point of peeling.  Also the formula and color of the lipstick made the chapping more pronounced especially when I tried to touch it up in the afternoon. By the end of the night, my lips were peeling very badly.

Day 12 - Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in #107

Love the color. This matte lipstick is very comfortable to wear too.

Day 13 - CoverGirl #325 Spellbound

Not sure what collection this one belonged to as it's not on the label, but it's the one in the metallic lavender case. Very nice feel and color.

Day 14 - SeneGence LipSense in Crimson Red topped with Glossy Gloss

Awesome red color. Again stayed on all day outside without transferring or bleeding.

Day 15 - Avon Beyond Color Plumping Lipcolor in Sienna

I don't feel as though my lips need plumping, but I also don't believe this lipstick had that effect on me. This color is pretty close to an old favorite of mine, which was Exotica from Revlon. Of course I fell in love with Exotica and then they discontinued it! This one felt good on the lips all day and did not cause chapping like the Black Cherry one did in my previous post.

Day 16 - Avon Ultra Color Rich 24k Gold Lipstick in Golden Raisin

Again this lipstick did not cause chapping, but the color payoff could be a little better in my opinion. It's a little too sheer for my taste.

Day 17 - Rimmel London Lasting Finish by Kate Lipstick in #09

As I mentioned before, I really like Rimmel Lipsticks. Color is beautiful and wear is great too.

Day 18 - Avon Color Rich Lipstick in Sparkling Blush

Nice color but patchy application on closer look. I put on quite a few layers before taking the photo and you can still see my natural lip color especially closer to the inside of my lips.

Day 19 - Bobby Brown Metallic Lip Color in Black Garnet with Nyx Butter Gloss in Devil's Food Cake.

This one was a gift. I don't wear it on it's own because the color is more of a dark sparkly brown. I always wear this lipstick layered with another lipstick or gloss. The Nyx Butter Gloss gave it the purple hue.

Day 20 - Rimmel London Show Off Lip Lacquer in Big Bang

Ok I admit that I really only purchased this one because of the shade name. I LOVE the KPop group by the same name. This formula is very pigmented but it also requires a lot of maintenance and checks in the mirror to make sure it hasn't least for me.

Well that's the end of the second set. Lots of Avon and Rimmel these last 10 days. 10 more days to go!

Memebox - Special #36 Meme's Pouch Unboxing

My long awaited 4th Memebox finally arrived! This one again had all full sized products. As before I'll start with item #1 on the product card.

First we have the Drww. Mix & Match 1 set. (1.5g x 5, $47)

This is an all-in-one color palette that includes lip and cheek colors along with a concealer and a mixing pot so you can create your own colors. The case features a magnetic closure and a 2 sided brush for application.

Second we have Evas Rose Mine Perfumed Hand Cream (60ml, $12)

There were 3 fragrance possibilities, and I received Gleaming Bijou, which has a light floral scent.

Third is Vally Sous Hair Solution Protein Therapy Perfect Mist (150ml, $21)

This is an enriching spray for the hair to use before or after blow drying. It's a fine mist with a fresh scent.

Fourth is Evas By Marait Eau De Parfum (30ml, $30)

I think this is the first box I've gotten where more than one product is from the same brand. Again, there were 3 fragrance possibilities, and I got No 72 Petit Princesse. It reminds me of Chanel No 5 a bit which is my Mom's favorite fragrance, but not mine. I'm gifting this one to her.

Fifth is the Étude House Blotting Paper Pact (50ea, $6)

This is really cool. It's blotting paper that is made from mulberry trees. The puff has adhesive that picks up the paper so you can easily blot away any excess oil throughout the day.

Last is the Croquis Alight Pact (10g, $35)

This is a powder highlighter that I'm exited to try.

That is it for my unboxing. Total value of products was $151. Remember that if you do decide to pick up a Memebox for yourself, use code P71H to save $5 at checkout. Until next time, =)

Lipstick - 30 Day Lipstick Challenge: Days 1-10

I have a pretty large collection of lipstick...well, lip products in general. I know that there are certain ones that I reach for all the time, but there are also ones that I rarely reach for. This is why I thought doing this challenge would be a perfect way to help me figure out which ones I don't use often and maybe why I don't use them.

I am not doing the challenge on consecutive days, just so you know, because I just don't wear lipstick every day. I will usually wear it during the work week, but weekends are iffy because unless I have to go somewhere, I don't wear it. Also, in regards to any comments made in terms of wear, I did wear the lip colors between 10 and 15 hours on these days.

Let's get started with Day 1: Ulta Super Shiny Lip Butter in London

This lipstick is very comfortable on the lips. It has a very moisturizing feeling without feeling sticky, but the color is very sheer.  I rarely wear this one on it's own and this was one of those rare days.

Day 2: Avon Ultra Color Rich Lipstick in #U250 Cherry Jubilee

I love this color! Unfortunately after a full day of wear, my lips were peeling terribly.

Day 3: LipSense Long Lasting Liquid Lip Color in Kiss for a Cause topped with LipSense Sand Gloss

This one is new to the collection and is a limited edition color. Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and my mother is a breast cancer survivor, I thought that it would be appropriate to include this in the lineup for my challenge. The company also contributes a portion from every sale of this shade to Breast Cancer research. I am an Independent Distributor of LipSense, so if you're interested in purchasing one, let me know. If you haven't heard of this product, it's waterproof and transfer proof lip color that lasts up to 18 hours without touch ups. It should be topped with one of their Shea Butter and Vitamin E glosses to seal the color and moisturize the lips. The gloss can be re-applied throughout the day as needed.

Day 4: Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in #525 Wine with Everything

I really like this color and am not sure why I don't wear it more often. Great color payoff and comfortable to wear.

Day 5: Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in #240 Tower of Mauve

I really like Rimmel's lipsticks. No complaints on this one. Color is not in my usual range, but it's interesting and on trend with the 90's lip look that's coming back.

Day 6: LipSense Long Lasting Lip Color in Plumeria topped with LipSense Sand Gloss

Lovely color, great wear.  Stayed in place all day.

Day 7: Bare Minerals 100% Natural Mineral LipColor in Berry Glacé

This line of lipsticks from Bare Minerals was discontinued and this is the only one from the line that I have. This has a very dry formulation, but it still wears comfortably on the lips. Color lasted all day too, without touch up.

Day 8: LipSense Long Lasting Lip Color in Cranberry topped with LipSense Sand Gloss

I love red lipstick and this one lasted all day outdoors without moving.

Day 9: Magical Lips Lipstick with Aloe Vera and Vitamin E (Orange) topped with Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Stained Gloss in Aurora.

This lipstick is one of those Mood Changing ones that adjust to the perfect pink on your lips. I used the orange one to give a more peachy pink for the under layer. This lipstick also acts like a stain. The Aurora gloss is pretty but does settle into lines.  Not so noticeable from far away though. This shade is almost too bright for my taste. I need to pair the gloss with a darker lipstick underneath.

Day 10: Milani #27 Dulce Caramello topped with Gerard Cosmetics' gloss in Rose Hill

Though the gloss is pretty pigmented, I just like having that extra layer of opaqueness which is why I wore the Milani under it. Also the Dulce Caramello gives a nice golden sheen to the color of Rose Hill.

Well, that's it for the first 10 days. Looks like only 1 of the lipsticks caused terrible peeling for me, which is actually surprising. Do you own any of these lipsticks? What are your experiences with them? Any favorites on the list?  I look forward to hearing from you.  Until next time, =)

P.S. Would you like me to post the prices for each lipstick in the description?

Memebox - Superbox #53 My Honey Box Unboxing

I was introduced to Memebox back in June and this is the third box I purchased from them. If you don't know about Memebox, they sell themed boxes of Asian beauty products. The Original Memebox comes with a mix of 4-8 full sized products and deluxe sized samples. The Superbox (which is what I've gotten all 3 times) includes only full sized products. The boxes are limited edition, so they do tend to sell out. This box for example, is sold out.

The boxes are shipped from Korea and can take 15-25 business days for delivery with standard shipping. I've actually had pretty good luck with the shipping usually only taking a couple weeks, but as I write that, I am still waiting on a box from my most recent order that was shipped out on September 19. This Honey Box was part of that order, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it will arrive soon.

Now on to the unboxing! Sometimes Memebox will release a spoiler of one or two products that are in the box after it ships out, but I don't usually go onto the website to take a look. This keeps the unboxing extra surprising. The theme to my box - products containing honey. I decided on this one because honey has natural anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. The box was $29.

When you receive your box, it comes in a bright pink bubble mailer as shown below:

Inside is your pink cardboard box containing all your goodies:

When you open your box, you will see your Product Guide on the top. This card has a little about each product and instructions for use in English. The products themselves usually have a little English on the front but the instructions and product descriptions are usually in Korean, so the Product Guide is very helpful.

I'll go in the order listed on the card.  I'll also list the amount of product included and the retail price along with a summary of the product description. The first product is the MIGABEE Antipollution RE-Peeling (100ml, $37).  This is a peel-off type facial pack that provides nourishing and brightening effects.

The second product is the Mi Click Manuka Honey Treatment (30ml, $5).  This is a deep conditioning mask for your hair.

The third product is the Enesti Apple & Honey Shea Butter Hand Cream (50g, $5). This hand cream also claims to moisturize, purify and firm hands.

The fourth product is the From Nature Multi Effect Collagen Honey Mask (1 mask, $1). This is a sheet mask with other herbal ingredients to soothe and brighten the complexion.

The fifth product is the EGMONG Honeybee Water Cream (50ml, $29). This facial moisturizer not only includes the enriching benefits of honey extracts, but it is also free from parabens, artificial coloring, mineral oil, talk and other things that aren't good for your skin.

The sixth product is the DAYCELL Essential Honey Lift Massage Cream (150ml, $20). This is an overnight facial treatment for dehydrated, sagging skin.

The last product is the Pure Smile Snail Lip Treatment Honey (10g, $5). This overnight lip treatment contains honey guessed it, snail mucus!

Truthfully, I will probably use everything in the box, except the lip treatment. I can't get past the snail mucus. It's one thing to put it on the face or body (not that I do that either) but just the thought of it on my lips....yuck. This will probably end up in a White Elephant gift. Have any of you used snail mucus products?  What are your thoughts on them?

So that's the end of the unboxing!  $102 worth of product for $29.  Not a bad deal if you ask me.  If you're thinking of purchasing a Memebox for yourself, they are offering a coupon code this month for $5 off your purchase.  Just enter code P71H during checkout. I do have a referral link here and an affiliate link on the bottom of this page to the Memebox site. I receive a small commission from any purchases made through the links to use on future purchases, just so you know.

This box was purchased by me from Memebox with my own money. I have not used any of the products yet, so I can't let you know if I like the products or how well they work for my skin, but with the winter ahead, I think they'll be great to have.  If you decide to purchase a box or have already purchased a box, let me know which one you got.

Well, I think I'll wrap it up here.  Hope you're all doing great and until next time, =)
